National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
In 2022, Kappa’s national philanthropic focus switched to Mental Health and Well Being. After a detailed evaluation of the options presented to us, the St. Louis Alumni Association elected to support the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). NAMI provides a wide range of services and educational programs, 100% of the monies raised here stay in the metro area, and there are countless opportunities to connect NAMI to our local chapters.
In our first year, we participated in NAMIWalks to raise money for the organization. The Kruising Kappas raised over $7,000 and was recognized by NAMI St Louis as the top fundraising "New Team". Many members participated in the walk itself while others helped with the fundraising. This is an annual event, usually in May.

Girls Inc., St Louis
St. Louis Alumnae Association's local philanthropy
Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold, providing more than 140,000 girls across the U.S. and Canada with life-changing experiences and solutions to the unique challenges girls face. The Girls Inc. Experience consists of people, an environment, and programming that, together, empower girls to succeed. Trained staff and volunteers build lasting, mentoring relationships in girls-only spaces that are physically and emotionally safe and where girls find a sisterhood of support with shared drive, mutual respect, and high expectations. Hands-on, research-based programs provide girls with the skills and knowledge to set goals, overcome obstacles, and improve academic performance. Informed by girls and their families, Girls Inc. also works with policymakers to advocate for legislation and initiatives that increase opportunities for girls. At Girls Inc., girls grow up healthy, educated, and independent.
St. Louis Kappas have contributed our time in days of service, helping at their holiday events, donating books to their library, and raising money for them during our annual fundraising event.

Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation
The KKG Foundation provides financial assistance to Kappas for school and in time of need, and educational programming for all our members, Actives and Alums. Our St. Louis Alumnae Association contributes money to the Foundation every year, some of it raised through dues and some raised during our annual fundraising event.

Kappas in the Classroom
From 2013-2022, while Kappa's national philanthropy initiative was Reading is Fundamental, St. Louis Kappas volunteered with the children of Central Elementary School in Ferguson, MO. Dedicating approximately 25 half days a week, our members worked with individual children and in small groups to help build their reading skills. The St. Louis Alumnae Association provided funding to purchase thousands of books, new and lightly used. Nearly 20,000 books were donated to the school’s library and classrooms, or sent home with the children to start their own home libraries. In most cases, the books we sent home were the first books these children ever owned and the only books in the home.
For the many volunteers, this was perhaps the most meaningful experience. Even though Kappa's national philanthropic focus shifted in 2022, several Kappas will be continuing with the school in a private capacity.
Get Involved!
The beauty of our association’s Philanthropy program is that you can get involved for the time it takes to make a donation, participate in a Day of Service or make a more-involved commitment. There are opportunities for everyone. It’s our lifeblood and connects us to each other and our community. Please join us.
